Prosthetics procedures:
Fixed or removable appliance to replace missing teeth
Implants
- Specialist procedure where a titanium implant is surgically placed in the bone and a crown, bridge or denture is attached to this. The surgery is done by a specialist oral surgeon or periodontist on referral.
Bridges:
- fixed appliances produced in the laboratory to replace one or more missing teeth
- formed by: abutments (set on the teeth on each side of the empty space) and pontics (replace the missing tooth or teeth)
Dentures:
- when the patient is edentulous- missing all the teeth in either upper or lower jaw
- removable appliances that replace the missing teeth on either upper or lower jaw
- made in the laboratory, of plastic (acrylic) or metal (chrome)
Partial dentures:
- removable appliances that replace some the missing teeth on either upper or lower jaw
- made in the laboratory, of plastic (acrylic) or metal (chrome)
